After moving away years ago to become a soccer star in Europe, Clay Hawkins has moved back to Riverwood, Minnesota, with his 12-year-old son, Braedon, and to his dysfunctional relationship with his father, Judd. When his Uncle Teddy goes missing, it’s all hands on deck to try and find him in this small town where everybody knows everyone and their business. Things in town are not going good, bikes are being stolen, car parts are being stolen, and Teddy is missing. Clay, who has a secret, is on the hunt, working with the new police chief. Braedon gets into some trouble and finds his mother, whom he has never met. When they get a lead on Teddy, it’s a rush to find him, and they get shocking news and suspects they never expected to be involved in what’s going on. This is an intense character-driven novel, that at its core is about family. The small-town feel works perfectly here and you get invested in the search and family dynamics at play.
