The year is 2015 and Ruth-Ann Baker is living in New York, and works as a bartener. On her way to work she gets an amber alert about a missing child, from the same town she grew up in, and when 19 years ago her friend, Beth, went missing, and was found dead days later, and who visits her even today as a ghost. Three other children went missing as well, and high school teacher Ethan Oswald was arrested, convicted and sent to jail where he died. Ruth thinks this latest kidnapping has something to do with Ethan, that he has an accomplice. She starts an investigation, learns startling new facts, finds three women, who all have stories from back then, and traces around the world to meet them, interview them, and figure out once and fall all what happened back then and what’s happening today. A solid, psychological thriller, with some twists and turns you don’t see coming.
