Simran Gopal, who is Indian, fled her family in New Jersey seven years ago and hasn’t looked back since. She was taken in by Aunt Veener Ayer after her parents died. Today, she has just started a relationship with Leo, after a long time of will they or won’t they. She gets an invitation to the wedding of her cousin, Geeta, but has no plans to go, until she is guiled into going. When she gets there, everything is chaos as Auntie has a lot of traditions to honor for the wedding. Then Leo shows up, and they cannot tell her that Simran and Leo are a couple. A plan is devised to keep him at the wedding and to win over Auntie, and by the end of the wedding, they will announce they are a couple. What could possibly go wrong? The bride and groom have a secret, as does Auntie’s other daughter. Leo gets fed up as well, and it could be the end of them before they get going. So sit back and enjoy the wedding of the summer…no present or formal wear is required. This is a fun book, and you learn a lot about their culture. At its core, the novel is about family, and this is quite the family. This is a great debut and a perfect summer beach read.
