Mary left her husband George, a controlling man from a powerful family, and is fighting for custody of their 2-year-old son Alex. He’s threatening to go for full custody, and wants her back. One day at the playground she meets Willa, who is there with a little boy, and they become fast friends, until she just ghosts her one day. Mary has gone to Woodstock to find a place to live, and a school for him to go to, when she sees Willa on the street, or someone that looks just like her, calling herself Annie. It is Willa, and Mary soon learns some of her secrets, and she needs to turn to her when George is found dead, and Mary becomes the prime suspect. Not everything is as it seems, and we soon learn Willa’s shocking secrets, and Mary concludes that Willa murdered him, and now needs proof, but once again not everything is as it seems. A tense, fast-paced psychological thriller, that uses the now and then format, so we know just who is who, and who did what. Fans of twisty, soapy novels will enjoy this one.
