Frida is living in Paris, in 1991, having moved there from the States. She has a dream of being a war reporter. Kate Fair lives in Seattle and works for a bookseller. When Frida writes to the store asking for a copy of a book, Kate is charged with replying and mailing off the book. The two soon become fast friends, writing to each other, in actual letters (this is before email), and sharing their lives and dreams. They each go through good times and bad times, never stopping the letters and being there for each other. A heartwarming novel that looks at life pre-internet, with some fun pop-culture references and a genuine friendship between two women.
