Judge Mary Stone is part of the circuit court in the small town of Union Springs, Alabama. She is known for running a tight courtroom and not putting up with any crap. She owns a farm with animals and an annoying rooster, and she is up for re-election. Dr. Bria Gaines has performed an illegal abortion for 13-year-old Nova Jones, and is arrested for it, and could spend the rest of her life in jail. Judge Mary Stone is assigned the case and is getting pressure from about to recuse herself, have the trial moved away, and she stands firm on being the judge for the case. People from all sides are showing up in town to protest, things get violent, a witness is murdered and the case proceeds in court. We follow along with the whole case, through the jury verdict, and then the shocking twist that takes place. This is an intense, well-written novel, looking at a hot-button issue that divides the country. The story is top-notch, and the jury trial is outstanding, and you will not be able to put this one down. Authors Patterson and Davis have written one of the best legal thrillers of the year. This one is not to be missed.
