The Jacobson family is in a time of transition. Their mother died not too long ago, and now their father has put their Jersey Shore home on the market, and it has sold. On the 4th of July weekend, Matthew, married to Beth and has a son Austin, Laura, married to Doug, and two daughters moving out of the house, Sophie, an artist and Noah, a slacker, still living in the house. As they go through everything, Noah is off to the store and buys Powerball tickets, and days later they find out they won. Only Matthew didn’t go in on the ticket, so the three siblings divide it three ways and think they can be happy with all the money they have. As the days and weeks go on, they find money can’t buy happiness, the family is falling apart, each member has some sort of issue, and they soon figure out they need to get back to being happy and a family, money be damned. A well-written, character-driven novel, that shows money can’t always buy happiness. At its core it’s about family, one you root for.
