JL Markham is 15 years old and in high school. Her life is filled with angst right now. She has had a falling out with the BFF Aubrey. Her father is away on business and has been for a long time. He contract keeps getting extended. Her mother is falling about without her father. She writes letters to the dead author Jack Kerouac, who she once kissed.
And JL is dating a 19 year old high school senior Max (he was held back a year), who wants to have sex. They have fooled around but not gone all the way. JL also is into butterflies, she raises them and takes care of them. But things start to really unwind for her and she’s ready to run away with Max to California on his bike to be with her dad. But things take a turn and now JL is left with a lot to think about. The life of a high schooler.
A honest, realistic look at the life of a 15 year old having to deal with sex, parents, friendship, loyalty and relationships, highlight this YA novel from Gae Polisner.
