Author Barbara Taylor Bradford is back with her follow up to last year’s Master Of His Fate: The House Of Falconer, a great first novel in her House Of Falconer series. In book two she continues the story of James Falconer and Alexis Malvern. The story follows the years of 1889 to 1892 and James is now a young man about to turn 21 years old, with a great job, working for Alexis’s father Henry and plans to start his own business empire.
Alexis is in the country and still reeling from a tragedy in her personal life. She refuses to go back to the company business and has very little to do with her father. She is comforted by close friends but still years after her loss she still is in shock and depression.
The story follows their lives over these few years. James has the love and support of his family and is given a raise and more power in the company. He meets a woman he thinks could be his future until she has to move away with her aunt and no idea when she can come back. James also learns a shocking secret that will affect his future going forward. He also learns the details of who killed his best friend (a story from the first book) and may even find his true love.
Alexis also learns a shocking secret about the house she lives in and finally snaps back to reality and is ready to reclaim her life and it may mean a new romance and even marriage and a happily ever after.
This was another great story. It continues the lives of the House Of Falconer and their respective families and friends. Like I said about the first book, it’s just a story of everyday live. With a few shocking secrets to entice the readers, it’s turns into a story about hope after loss and of love. Hopefully there will be more stories of this family and friends in the future.
You can pick up In The Lion’s Den in stores on Tuesday, May 26th from St. Martin’s Press.
