Michelle lives in Seattle, has just been divorced, and hasn’t told her family yet. Then her mother dies, her family learns of the divorce, and she needs to move to Cooper Run, Vermont, to run the family bed and breakfast for three months, until her sister finishes college. The moment she arrives, she meets Cliff, the hot baker, who lives next door, is divorced and has two girls he has custody of. They become friends, and she asks him for help coming out of her shadow. They soon fall for each other, but Michelle is leaving in three months, and neither one of them wants to get hurt. They finally give in to their feelings, have hot sex, and fall in love with each other, not wanting to admit to the other. When it’s time for her to live, Cliff makes a gesture that he hopes will get her to stay. The story is set in 1997, and has some good pop-culture references, two characters you root for to be together, and good supporting characters, including a dog. A great Labor Day weekend novel to read.
