Richard Boyle is a high school teacher in Connecticut and on this day during his class, he looks out the window and sees a former student, Mark LeDrew, with dynamite strapped to his chest. He tells his class to lock the door, and call 911, and he goes to confront Mark at the side door. He has a list of teachers he feels wronged him and Richard is able to talk him down as Mark goes outside, he trips and the dynamite explodes, killing him. Richard is hailed as a hero, or so he should be. Mark’s parents decide to slap him with a lawsuit and another former student, who is a drug runner and some product is missing, and he needs money fast, decides to try and blackmail Richard, by claiming he sexually molested him when he was in school something Richard didn’t do. It all leads to a murder, a drug ring and Richard trying to find a way to stop the blackmailing, and it leads to a climatic showdown and an even bigger twist to end the novel. I love author Linwood Barclay’s books and this is another gem, he never writes a bad novel. This is a book you will not want to put down.
