This was supposed to be the summer of all summers for Zach Martin. He scores the winning soccer goal, and the team wins state. He’s going to be voted the next captain for senioe year. He plans on having the best summer with his two best friends, then it all goes sideways. When the current captain is in trouble for a prank he pulled, Zack takes the blame, and is sentenced to community service, and has to change the soccer practices to early mornings. His teammates start to resent him, and they think he’s only out for himself. He’s suppose to do community service at the library, but gets it changed to the seaside conservation society after meeting Chip, who is quite hot. He becomes friends with him, and he wants more, but Chip puts him in the friend zone. Zach soon learns he has a lot of growing up, and when things get out of control, Zach has a lot of changing to do, and hopes that Chip will be there along the way. Teen angst, young love, and maturing are all covered in this heart-warming story of young teens on the way to becoming men. A solid gay rom-com for your summer reading.
