You might now have known who Chasten Buttigieg was if not for the Presidential run of Mayor Pete. He’s the husband of the man he calls Peter, not Pete. His new biography tells the story of his life from when he was a young child, to college, his first romances and coming to terms with being gay and finally to meeting Peter and the whole campaign run. This is his story in his words and he’s brutally honest about things. His having to come to terms with his homosexuality and telling his parents could be any gay persons story. This memoir is a great one as Chasten holds nothing back and you feel for him every step of the way. Truly is an inspirational story.
Chasten grew up in rural Michigan town with two brothers and his parents. They were always a close family and his dad use to love to play practical jokes on him. He had to work for everything he wanted, including his first car. He knew he was gay at a young age and it was hard for him in school and at home because of where he lived.
He soon went off to college and knew he had to tell his parents and he recounts this story. He also talks about all his various jobs to pay for college and living on his own, including working at Starbucks. His first almost sexual experience is recounted and it’s a harrowing tale. When he finally met his first boyfriend it ended in heartache.
Then when he met Peter (Mayor Pete) it was love. Their romance is capped and it’s a sweet love story. And the campaign for President and how he had to be put into the spotlight (something he wasn’t comfortable with) is part of their love story.
Chasten does not disappoint except when he confesses his hate for Cliff Bars! Really Chasten how can you hate Cliff Bars?!!
