Sloan Cooper is a corporal with the Maryland Natural Resources Police and her way home after a case stops to get gas and drinks with her partner when she is shot. She barely survives and sees the light but is saved and now faces a long recovery at her parent’s house in Heron’s Rest, a small resort town. Nash Littlefield and his younger brother, Theo, have left New York and moved here, buying an old house that needs a lot of work. They also start their own handyman, construction company and soon become involved with Sloan’s family. Nash and Sloan become hot and heavy, as do Theo and Sloan’s sister. When people start vanishing out of nowhere, Sloan starts investigating and soon learns more people have vanished. She soon ties all the cases together and the search is on for a serial killer, that soon targets Sloan. This is another great Nora Roberts stand-alone novel, which at its core is about family and love. Watching these characters fall in love and renovate homes is refreshing and fun. A good summer beach read.
