Hazel Greenlee and her husband move to Black Harbor, Wisconsin and she gets a job at the police department as a transcriber (she types out the reports for the department) and she works nights. It’s kind of a blessing for her as she’s not happy in her marriage. The city is known for a high-crime rate and one night her neighbor Sam shows up and say he buried a body. Hazel gets first hand knowledge of everything going on at the station and soon becomes friends with Nik Kole, one of the investigators on Sam’s case and a drug situation going on with a suspect named Tyler. Hazel soon finds herself helping Nik on the case and also gets with Nik on a personal level. This puts Hazel in a situation that could destroy everything she currently has. A solid debut novel from author Hannah Morrissey, with well-written characters and a story that keeps the readers invested throughout.
