Cork O’Connor is excited for Memorial Day, as his whole family will be together. But not all is okay, his grandson and son have both had visions of something happening to Cork. Cork is also excited about a guy’s only trip to the Boundary Waters, for camping, traditions, and fun, and first time for Mal and his son. Right from the start, Cork senses something is wrong. He finds trash and blood on a tree and soon a dead body. He is worried for his friend, Cordell, a guide, who is out with a group of men. He sends his family home and is determined to find out what is going on by himself. He soon meets a pair of brothers the sons of a man, who was a murderer, who hid a pack somewhere in the woods. He is able to free Cordell, who is injured, and takes his place as a hostage. These brothers want the pack and are willing to kill him if he doesn’t help them. What they don’t know is that Cork is smart and is able to outwit them at every turn. It soon becomes a dangerous game of cat and mouse with lives on the line. This is the 22nd novel in the series, and it keeps getting better and better. This book is told from Cork’s point of view, and the story starts off strong and never lets up. This is a page-turner you will not want to put down. The best book yet in the series.
