This is the first book in a new series set in 1942 as WWII rages on. Irene Ingram is now the editor of the newspaper in Progress, PA, after her father goes off to cover the war. A local robbery of a Jewish couple sets the stage for this novel. Someone has written a bad message to the couple at their shop. It wasn’t a robbery at all. Moe is one of Irene’s reporter who was suppose to cover the story but never showed up. When Irene goes to his house, she finds him dead at what appears to be an accident but then turns into a murder investigation. Moe was on the lead for a big story before he died and now Irene is going to follow on his trail with her trusted assistant Peggy, to find out what he was working on and why he was killed. It could be the scoop of their paper or the end of their lives. A solid start to this new series that makes good use of the time period of WWII and what Jews went through. Through in the culture of that time and it makes you look forward to future novels with Irene and Peggy.
