Daniel Wu is half-Chinese, half-Dutch Canadian, who is lives and works in Amsterdam, when his boyfriend dumps him, and he makes a mistake at work. He decides to fly to China to visit his best friend, Poppy, and try to clear his head. When he gets there, he finds out she has to leave town for the week, leaving him alone. She sets him up for a tour of the Great Wall and hires Yang, a PhD student, to take him. They get off on the wrong foot with each other, but soon get past that and end up spending almost the whole week together. There’s an attraction between the two, though Yang is in the closet. They soon act on it and fall for each other. Things are not easy for the two of them, Daniel will be leaving soon; he has emotional issues and is hard to open up, and Yang’s father does not know he is gay and Yang decides to end it, but has second thoughts and makes a grand gesture. This is the best gay rom-com of the year. You follow these two along on their journey and root for them to be together. Beware, there are some steamy scenes, and all the talk of food will make you hungry!
