A New England trucking company is the center of this novel, Curtis is the overnight dispatcher. He has a son from a previous relationship, a baby on the way, and dreams of writing a novel. He is stuck dealing with ringing phones all night from the drivers, sometimes just lonely ones wanting to talk. Billy is the uncle of Curtis, and he comes up with a plan to steal a truckload of drugs and make them both rich. He is going to switch a truck driven by Theo, who is married and his wife wants a baby, and he is having an affair with Sarah, whom he takes on his trip to Canada, where the truck hijacking is to take place. We follow along on these drivers, and others, as the nighst and days progress, all leading to endings for all of them. This is the debut novel from author Ryan Lowell, and it’s a good one. A character-driven novel that starts off strong and never lets up. At 215 pages, it’s a good, quick, enjoyable book.
