The year is 1896, and London is the setting for the 17th novel in the series. Dr. Sun Yat-Sen is in London and wanted for writing a letter to the Emperor of China seeking reforms. He is captured right away and thrown into a cell at the Chinese embassy. Barker and Llewelyn are hired to try and find him and hopefully help him. The job is made harder when they learn that Sebastian Nightwine is alive, Barker thought he killed him years ago in a duel, and back in London, and friends with the Prince of Wales. He is after Sun to bring him back to China and collect a reward, as well as getting revenge against Barker and the crew of Barker’s ship, for what happened to him years ago. It all leads to a shocking showdown. Also, Llewelyn learns a shocking secret about his past. This is another intense, well-written novel. This series is one of my favorites and keeps getting better and better. Long-time fans will enjoy this one.
