The first Finlay Donovan novel was outstanding and author Elle Cosimano got a TV dead out of it. The second novel in the series is a good follow-up, with more problems for Finlay and Vero. Too much of what Finlay has been doing (or is doing) gets found out and she has a lot to explain. It hurts the magic of what the first novel accomplished and should be kept to a minimum, that what made the first book so good. This time around Finlay finds out that there’s a hit out on her ex Steven on a forum she and Vero have discovered. Someone named EasyClean says they will do it and Finlay says she will do it (she won’t just trying to stop anything from happening). And now Finlay and Vero are trying to figure out who wants Steven dead. Mysterious things keep happening to Steven, who so far is still alive. WHen she finds out who owns the board, it harkens back to the first book and Finlay soon finds herself trying to cover her tracks and having a lot of explaining to do to her ex and to the two men that are interested in her (one being a cop). On top of all that Finlay has to turn in a new book and she hasn’t begun to work on it. There’s some good LOL moments and the story keeps you on a ride. Some well timed twists and an ending that will lead to the next book in series, gives the reader something to look forward to.
You can pick up Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead in stores on Tuesday, February 1st from Minotaur Books.
