Edie Pepper is 35 and lives in Chicago and she’s looking for love and having no luck. When she sees that Charlie Bennett, her high school best friend and first love is the new contestant on the TV dating show, The Key, she knows she wants him back. She contacts one of the producers, tells her who she is and how she knows Charlie and gets an offer to be on the show, even though filming has already begun. Charlie is shocked when she shows up and is not happy about it, he has a new life now and is not interested in Edie. The plan for the show is to get him to propose to her, for ratings, even though she doesn’t look like all the other model types the show has. As the weeks go by, we watch the filming of the show and Edie soon figures out Charlie is not the man she wants anymore, someone else is and it could cause a lot of issues with the show and with her heart. This is a well-written, fun story, with the reality show as the basis for the story and it works great here. Edie is a force to be reckoned with and it’s refreshing to watch her in action. This is a perfect summer beach read.
