In Chicago, an alderman is killed, and Detective Harriet Foster is on the case, along with her partner Vera Li. There could be any number of suspects, and then a second alderman is killed. All signs point to disgraced former alderman Marin Shaw, who went to jail 3 years ago on corrupt charges, kept her mouth closed about what she knew, and served her time. She has just gotten out of jail, and could have a lot of motives for the killings. As they investigate, they find lies, and shocking secrets from many potential suspects, and then a third alderman is killed. Harriet and Vera have to move quickly, and they find the lead they need, but a young girl’s life could be at stake. This is an intense, well-written psychological thriller, with two strong female leads. You will not want to put this one down.
