It was 12 years ago when Percy left Barry’s Bay, Ontario and the love of her life Sam (who she has known since they were both young teenagers), who was hoping to marry him. She hasn’t talked to him or been back since. When Sam’s brother Charlie calls to let her know that their mother has died, Percy decides to go back there for the funeral and that means facing Sam and having to deal with the past in order to move forward. The novel uses the then and now and we follow along in real time how the two met, became friends, fell in love and what happened to make her leave Sam behind. This is the debut novel from author Carley Fortune and it’s a really well-written character driven novel. The story will touch your heart and you root for them to hopefully put the past behind and maybe start over again. A perfect novel to start off your spring/summer reading season.

You can pick up Every Summer After in stores on Tuesday, May 10th from Berkley.
