Book Review: ‘Empire Of Wild: A Novel’ By Cherie Dimaline

Joan and Victor have had a fight. He walks out and is not seen again. Joan has searched for him for a year now with no luck. Then one day she seems him in a revival tent at the Walmart. He says he doesn’t know her at all and his name is Reverend Eugene Wolff. Joan doesn’t believe him and swears he is her husband.

Joan is determined to prove he is Victor and with the help of her 12 year old nephew and an elder, she sets out to do just that. Joan is told he’s under the spell of the Rogarou, a myth where she lives that there are werewolf like creatures, that have lived here. She’s bound and determined and she may not like what she finds.

This is the debut adult novel from author Cherie Dimaline and it delivers. A solid story which runs the gambit of emotions for the reader. More books like this and she will be someone to watch out for.

Empire Of Wild is in stores on Tuesday, July 28th from William Morrow.
