New Year’s Eve 1952 and Archer is in the city of Lights, Los Angeles, with his friend and aspiring actress Liberty Callahan. They’re out for the evening for dinner and a party. Archer meets a screenwriter named Eleanor Lamb, who claims she’s in trouble, that someone is out to kill her. She wants to hire him since he’s a P.I. to try and figure out who is after her. When Archer calls her house late at night a strange man answers and Archer doesn’t think things are right. When he gets to her house he finds a man dead and Eleanor missing. He is on the case looking for Eleanor and who murdered the man. The case takes him to Chinatown, Hollywood, the rich and powerful and even to Vegas and the mob. The more he digs, the more clues he finds and the more danger he finds himself in. But Archer is not one to give up and will do what it takes to solve this mystery, even if it costs him his life. This third novel in the series is another thrilling ride from start to finish. The character of Archer is great and a lot of fun to read. Author David Baldacci is always manages to top himself.
