It’s Valentine’s Day 2020 and covid is breaking out everywhere, and J.P. knows that lockdowns could be coming. He has planned a romantic dinner with his wife Mel, at an exclusive restaurant, and that is shot to hell when his grandson Kyle, who is 18, wants to move in with them for his final semester, and finish high school there. His parents have split up, his father is living with a pregnant new girlfriend, and he can’t stand being there. They agree to let him live with them. J.P. also decides to investigate the woman. He also is asked to look into the drug-related death in 2018 of Darius Jackson, by his Grandmother, who swears he was clean, and that the cops never really investigated. He looks into the case, then finds more similarities with other drug-related deaths, and soon proves there’s a serial killer. He’s able to figure out who he thinks the murderer is, and convinces the police to get search warrants, while also working on the case of the mysterious girlfriend. This is another great novel in the series. J.P. is one of my favorite characters to read every year, and author J.A. Jance never disappoints. Fans of the long-running series will enjoy this one.
