Cordell Logan gets word that his friend and ex-wingman, Pete Hostetler, is dead, his naked body falling through a mobile home and is shocked he’s dead. He decides to investigate the murder, things are being said about his friend he finds hard to believe. It leads him to a California toy company, that seems to have more going on than making toys. It also leads him to a Mexico cartel, a bitter wife and two detectives who don’t want his interference. The more he digs, the more his life is in danger, but Cordell is not someone you want to mess with. He’s smart, snarky, cunning, strong, quick and knows how to get out of trouble. When he trusts the wrong person, it could be the end of him. This is my first time reading one of these novels and I loved it. The character of Cordell is awesome, with a strong supporting cast including his girlfriend, his landlady (one of the best characters I’ve read all year), a cat and a dog. This one is a winner.
