Sergeant Hamish Macbeth (who is Scottish) is having another one of those days, weeks, and months. He’s assigned to work with a cop from Chicago, James Bland, the cover story is an exchange program, but he’s to work with Macbeth to try and track down a Russian spy ring. Their first night back in the small village of Lochdubh, the bridge to get into town, caves during a bad storm, and it must be fixed right away. There’s also a series of robberies that he has to investigate, find the people on a list of suspected names as part of the ring, and track down the robber, known as Spider-Man, because of a spider’s web tattoo on his next. It’s all in a day’s work for Hamish. This is the 36th novel in the series, and author Green does a great job writing these novels (as well as the Agatha Raisin series). Hamish is a fun character to read, the mysteries are easy to follow along with, and fans of the series will enjoy this one.
