Sgt. Ali Wren and her springer spaniel, PD Wilson, have moved to her hometown of Heft, in North Yorkshire. Not a lot is happening, and she has to deal with petty things sometimes, like the rivalry between two bakeries across the street from each other. Ali runs into a resident, Brian Bright, who reports his wife, Melody, missing. Ali thinks she may have just ran off until she finds out the details of Brian’s first wife, who died. As she investigates, a number of potential suspects emerge. Then Melody is found dead, and it becomes a murder investigation, and Ali needs to find the killer before it’s too late. This is the first novel in this new series, and it is great. Ali and the dog are the highlights of this small-town murder mystery. I can’t wait for more adventures with these two.
