The sequel to One Death at a Time finds Julia Mann now a lawyer after serving time in prison for murder, one she claims she didn’t commit. Natasha Mann has become her assistant and lives on her property in a guest house. She is still going to AA, and when her sponsor, Alexa, receives threats, and then one of the women she sponsors dies, Mason is on the case, and she asks Mann to help as well. Their personal lives are moving forward Mann has a new, younger boyfriend, and Mason’s father has had a heart attack, and he is being urged to retire. All this is going on at the same time as they try to figure out what is going on with Alexa by digging into her background, and that of the murder victim. It all leads to them needing to solve this quickly before it’s too late. This is a great follow-up to the first novel. The writing is crisp, funny, and the story has a fun set of quirky characters, some of whow steal the spotlight. Author Abbi Waxman never disappoints with her novels.
