Peyton Collard was once a good man, a veteran, a good husband, and a father to his daughter, until a fatal car accident, where he was drunk and killed a girl, changed everything. These days he’s living in a rundown apartment, behind on his payments to his wife, and is drunk most of the time. When he’s arrested for a variety of charges, a mysterious person bails him out, and then leaves a note and money in his mailbox, with a URL for him to go to. This person wants him to kill a bad guy and in return, Peyton will get a 100,000 dollars. Peyton pulls it off, then has more murders to commit, for more money, is being harrassed by some local gang members who know he has this money, a determined cop that thinks he has something to do with these murders, and his ex-wife and daughter are in danger. Peyton goes on the offensive, kills a whole bunch of people, and decides he has to find whoever this person is that having him killed, and blackmailing him, he has evidence of everything he has done. It leads to a climatic showdown, and a shocking ending. This is an intense novel, that hooks you in right away and never lets up. Even though Peyton is a killer, you feel for him and even root for him, in this dangerous game he’s in, all for the love of his daughter. This one is another winner from author Adam Hamdy.
