The actual author of this novel is also part of the story. He has a novel due in five months and hasn’t written a thing, and has no ideas. His last four novels were based on cases that former police detective Daniel Hawthorne has worked on, and he hasn’t worked on any new murders lately. So he gets Daniel to give him information on a case from years ago, one he will turn into his next novel. An exclusive London neighborhood, where all the residents get along, suddenly has issues with the Kenworthy family moves in. They’re snobs, and don’t care for the rules or the feelings of the other neighbors, and things come to a boil, and then Giles Kenworthy is murdered, and all the neighbors are suspects, and Hawthorne is on the case. This is my first time reading one of these books, and I really enjoyed it. The characters of Hawthorne and Horowitz have a nice chemistry between them, and the murder mystery plays nicely into the story.
