Los Angeles police detective Margaret Nolan is back for her fourth adventure, this time investigating the death of the owner of a pet food company, Bruce Messane, worth millions, and about to be sold for a lot of money. She finds the body with a gunshot to the head in a seedy part of town and along with her partner Al begins a deep dive into his life and finds many hidden secrets about him. Then his ex-partner Rome Bechtold’s wife is kidnapped, which ties into the case, he gets Bruce’s share of the company due to his death, and he calls Sam for help, who in turn gets the police involved, until he is kidnapped. The only thing Margaret has going for her is the case seems to settle around a mysterious woman named Mimi, find her and the case may be wrapped up. On the personal side in the novel, Margaret and Sam both make relationship changes and Sam also gets a new job. This is another excellent novel in the series, they keep getting better, which I am a fan of. There’s a lot of action, good supporting characters and story moving forward. I can’t wait for the next one.
