Five new demigods are at Camp Half-Blood and are hazed, in order to enter the camp, Clarisse, who is their leader, makes them enter through the Wild Zone, a forbidden forest that is sealed off. No one really knows what goes on in there, and the five must fight for their lives to enter the camp. Katie Kim is one of the students, and she is the daughter of Ares, and she works with Grant, who is also a child of Ares, and she makes it to camp, Grant does not, and the other three make it as well. As the days go by, Katie is determined to go back into the zone and find Grant, and forms a group, the Wild Omada, with her three fellow students who made it through, and try and find Grand. When Silas, goes missing as well, it’s feared he was taken into the zone as well. After a failed mission to find Grant and Silas, the group is sure they are both still in the zone. There’s also a lot more going on with the gods; there is infighting, a threat from the Titans to start a new war, and demigods going missing. As the book ends we learn a shocking secret about Katie, one that will lead to book two and beyond. This is the first book in the new Camp Half-Blood series, while there is no Percy Jackson in this one, the new characters and the camp make up for it. Author Riordan and Oh continue the breezy, fun writing style we have been used to in previous novels. Welcome back to Camp Half-Blood.
