Temperance Reed was once part of a powerful family and was kicked out when she refused to be a bad person like her brother, who was running the family. There are 5 powerful families, and 10 sub-powerful families, and you don’t want to cross them. She’s working on the crew of The Quest, when she catches her boyfriend cheating with an intern. She soon buys the ship, and takes odd jobs where she can find them. Her reputation isn’t great because of her past with her family. She soon gets a summons from the powerful Escajeda family, with a job for a lot of money, with conditions that have to be met. They have to travel to the planet of Herschel Two, a mostly barren planet not claimed by anyone, to look for a new, rare mineral that will change space travel. She also has to bring along the son of the family, the very hot Arcadio, as their head of security, An attraction develops, and they have to fight it (giving in finally), along with the cult group that lives there, an enemy and powerful family, a shocking secret as to why they’re really there and even her own brother. This is a great sci-fi debut novel, that has everything you would want and more. Fans of Star Trek, Babylon 5 and Battlestar will really enjoy this one. Hopefully there will be more adventures with this crew.

You can pick up Calamity in stores on Tuesday, November 14th.
