Jake Slade is trying to put his past behind him and become a smokejumper, jumping into fires and helping to put them out, for the U.S. Forest Service. It’s all hands on deck for a wildfire in the northern mountains of California. Boone a man from his past is a CI for the DEA, who has been working undercover with a Mexican cartel and has to survive until a grand jury hearing in a few days. When he’s ambushed he goes on the run, and contacts Slade for help. It seems everyone is after him, the DEA, hitmen for the cartel and Special Agent Keller, who needs him to testify. It all leads to the mountains of California, where gun battles, deaths and betrayals all take place, and who lives and dies in the grueling terrain. I am a fan of Joshua Hood’s books, and this is another good action-adventure novel, that will keep you on the edge of your seat. He uses his real-life experiences in his writing. Fans of this type of book will be happy with this one.
