Davis Reed left Charleston after issues with the some cops, he was a cop for a while and PI, and nows lives in a remote cabin in the hills of North Carolina, planning to write a book. He rents the cabin from Dale, who is a Deputy, they like to drink homemade beer, and snipe at each other. On this night Dale is called to the local country club, a man, Prentiss Read, is dead on the 16th hole, hit in the forehead with a golf ball and Davis tags along. Dale rules it an accident, but Davis thinks it was murder. A local, rich couple, who are murder mystery fanatics, hire Davis to look into the death, and will pay him if he proves it was murder, and they want to be part of the investigation as well. Davis, along with his trusty sidekick Floppy, comes up with clues and information that lead to several potential suspects, and back too a death from many years ago. Someone doesn’t want Davis getting to close to the truth, one person kills himself and confessess to the killing, but is he really the one who did it? It leads to a party to unveil the killer, but David unveils a lot more than he bargained for. This is a great novel, with an interesting character in Davis, and a group of quirky supporting characters (especially Floppy). There’s a lot of lol moments and a story that is fun to read. This one is not to be missed.
