Book Review: ‘Buckskin’ Is The Next Exciting Cole And Hitch Novel

Marshalls Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch are back for their 10th adventure in Buckskin. They have been out of town for a few days and when they return all hell has broken loose in Appalossa. There is gold in the hills and two different groups own parts of it. And they are fighting each other and people are dying and threats are being made. It’s up to Cole and Everett to keep the peace. They must solve a murder and stop more before they happen.

And if that’s not enough a killer that we get to know as The Kid is on his way to town to look for his birth mother and possibly get revenge on her. He meets up with a teamster’s wife who wants revenge on Cole for the killing of her father years ago when she was young.

Both worlds collide during Appaloosa days when the murderer is ready to strike again and the kid and the woman are in town ready for their revenge. It leads up to a climax finale where people will die.

This is my first time reading one of these Cole and Hitch novels and it was great. The setting of the old west where they’re are Marshalls, saloons and good old fashioned gun fights is well written. And the characters are great. Cole and Hitch just play well off each other and ten books in are still going strong. I wish I had time to go back and read the first nine books. I jumped right in with this one and you don’t need to read the first nine to understand what is going on.

You can pick it up in stores on Tuesday, May 7th from Putnam.
