Set in a mythical lane, we follow Juniper O’Reilly and Mo Elmthorn. They’re best friends, and they live together. They work hard, play hard, drink mead, and get into bar fights, and are in love with each other; neither has confessed to the other. On this night, Juniper hits the wrong person, is arrested, and in order to get out of serious trouble, has to agree to go on a quest, which Mo agrees to go with him, to find and kill a dragon, all to the disgust of Juniper, who does not want to do this. Once on the road, they find a dragon, who is a shapeshifter, and turns to be a little girl, and they vow to protect her after they learn that a group, led by the Prince, has killed her mother, and they now want the girl. When Juniper makes an agreement with the Prince, it seems things are settled, only to be double-crossed, and Mo and the girl are taken. Now it’s up to Juniper to save the love of his life and the girl before it’s too late. This is a fun, mythical love story, with two characters you root for to be together. This is one of the feel-good novels of the year!
