Set in the small Michigan town of Bitterfrost, where hockey rules, Jimmy Baker, who once had a promising hockey career, runs the Zamboni, named Zelda, for the amateur team in town. He loves his job and has a rabid fan base for when he drives Zelda on the ice. On this night he goes for one drink at the local bar and then wakes up in the morning with no memory of what happened after he left the bar and finds blood on his jacket, in his car and on his doorknob. Soon he is arrested for the murder of two men, who he had an altercation with that night at the bar. Attorney Devyn Payne takes the case, believing he’s innocent and buts head with police detective Garth Kimmek, as they both look for answers to what happened that night. Soon Devyn is threatened and told to back off, there are forces at work she doesn’t want to mess with. Not being scared off, the case goes to trial and we follow along with it and its stunning conclusion. This is an intense, well-written novel, with a great trial, worthy of any John Grisham novel. This is one you will not want to put down.
