A plot is put into place to kidnap the family of a billionaire and ask for a billion-dollar ransom. The plot is led by a mysterious person who calls himself One. Each member of the team is a number two through five. Strict rules are placed on each member and must be followed exactly as told. Each kidnapping goes off smoothly, and now the FBI is on the case, headed by Nicky Gordon, with a task force, including the LAPD. which is led by Mike Hardy, who has a casual relationship with Nicky. We follow along with each kidnapping and the task force working over the coming days. Every time Nicky seems to have a lead, the bad guys are one step ahead, meaning there’s a leak on her force. When they finally get the ransom demands and the money, a drop is made, and the bad guys seem to get away, or did they? This is another great action-thriller from author Patterson, along with Swierczynski. The lead character of FBI agent Nicky Gordon is another strong female, and her chemistry with Mike is off the charts. Hopefully, there will be more adventures with these two.
