Dani, Hannah and Avery are three women from different part of the country who have never met. They have one thing in common they are really good basketball players. All three of them are encouraged to apply to West Point and all three get in. From the minute they arrive it is not at all what they expect. It’s hard work. They put you through your paces and some people don’t survive. All three of them make it. They all try out for the basketball team and only one is for sure is first team. The other two are on the team. They also have a full class load and must conform to all rules for first year. And there are a lot.

They also become friends over time and form a click among the three of them. We follow their lives through West Point and their classes and personal lives. Their boyfriends and live on the basketball court. The book starts in the year 2000 and we follow them through 2007 and all the ups and downs in their lives. They grow apart somewhat but when the chips are down they are there for each other. The three of them take different paths in their lives and we see it all. When a tragedy affects one of them they come together like never before and re-evaluate their lives and what’s important to them.

Author Claire Gibson grew up at West Point so she knows of what she writes. She also interview lots of people that went there. This story is a very strong female driven story with three main characters. The friendship is strong and love they have for each other shines through. You don’t usually see such strong female characters like you do in this book. Just a well done debut novel.

You can pick it up in stores now from William Morrow.
