Thirty-two year old Fern Douglas is feeling deja vu when she learns that Astrid Sullivan has vanished again. The same thing happened to Astrid 20 years ago. She was missing for a month and then suddenly showed up. Fern feels like she knows Astrid as they lived not to far from each other. But she also has no memory of her or the story from all those years ago.

When she returns to her family home to help her father pack up for his move to Florida, things start to come back to her. Astrid has written a novel about what happened to her all those years ago and Fern is reading it. She also has deal with her crazy father. He use to do ‘experiments’ on her growing up. He would create a situation and then ask her questions about it.

Fern starts digging around about Astrid and if she ever met her. She soon learns things about that time and the specific day that Astrid went missing all those years ago. She keeps remembering more and more and thinks she knows where Astrid is being held. But what she thinks and what she knows are about to blow up and she learns shocking secrets about the past and present and what truly happened back then and what’s happening now.

A solid mystery thriller with twists and turns (you will see it coming it you pay attention to the story). You root for Fern as you read the story and want her to figure out everything and come out unscathed.

You can pick up Behind The Red Door in stores on Tuesday, August 4th from Atria Books.
