Crime reporter Jordan Manning left Texas years ago and has established herself as one of the top reporters in Chicago, where she now calls home. She has covered many stories on the murders of African-American women over the course of her career and when the body of 15-year old Masey James (African-American) in an abandoned lot and the girl the police think she was a runaway, Jordan refuses to believe it. Jordan finds out Masey had a lot going for her and decides to investigate on her own. She puts everthing on hold (including her personal life) as she believes there’s a serial killer at work and she won’t rest until the truth comes out, even it means putting her own life on the line.

Tamron Hall is known for her talk-show and her reporting over the years. This is a her first novel and it’s great. It shines a light on the plight of how African-American women have been treated by police and society. It also has a very strong female character in Jordan, who you root for as you read along. I cannot wait for more novels with the character of Jordan Manning.

You can pick up As The Wicked Watch in stores on Tuesday, October 26th from William Morrow.
