Cork is about to turn 60 and is dreading it, as he takes stock in his life. He gets a call from his son Stephen, who is working for an organization that helps overturn wrongful convictions, like the Innocent Project. He tells his dad that the man, Axel Boshey, whom sent to prison for murder 25 years ago, when he became Sheriff, may have been innocent. We flash back in the first half of the book to the events of that case and how Axel was convicted, and Cork back then wasn’t convinced he did it, but the evidence and his confession sealed the deal. Now today he decides to relook at the case, along with his daughter Jenny, and he talks with Axel, and looks at the evidence from all those years ago. When his life is threatened, it shows he is getting close to figuring things out. When a murder takes place, it leads to a shocking reveal of events from what happened all those years ago. This is another intense novel in the series. Having the flashback section brings back characters now seen in the series in years. Fans of these novels will love this latest one.
