After one year of marriage, Charley’s husband says he is leaving and the marriage is over. Now she has to try and buy him out of the house they live in and keep her law job that she doesn’t really like. Months later, she reconnects with her best friend, Ethan Powell, whom she grew up with, along with her sister, Laurel and Petey, another best friend, whom Laurel is about to elope with. Charley thinks she’s rushing into it, but she and Ethan take off to be at the wedding. The trip is an adventure she has to use a truckstop shower, and their camper gets stuck in mud. Along the way, they discover feelings between them, they kiss, and then they have sex. Because of a variety of issues, the wedding never takes place, and on the way home Charley afraid of her feelings, dumps Ethan. When she finally decides to take stock of her life, she hopes it’s not too late to fix things with Ethan. Told with flashbacks to their first time meeting and adventures over the years, this is a fun, engaging rom-com. A perfect summer beach read.
