Evan Smoak, aka Orphan X, aka The Nowhere Man, has just finished helping someone when he gets an emergency call from Luke Devine, who is a very powerful man, needing Evan’s help. Before he leaves, Joey, who is now 17 and learning to be an X from Evan, asks to do more, and she goes with Evan to the Hamptons to help Luke. While helping Luke, he learns about a woman that was on the subway who was having a seizure and was kidnapped, and he has Joey track her down and learns she was gang raped. Evan is outraged, finds the woman and offers her help and is determined to find the guys who attacked her, she agrees to let him, provided he doesn’t kill anyone and leaves it to the police. His search takes him to the streets of NY and to Los Angeles, and he is slowly taking down the bad guys and the rich company that supports them. Along for help is Candy, and a woman he never thought he would ask for help. There’s also a cameo from Mia, who lives in his apartment with her son, and leaves Evan shocked when she confesses something to him. This is the 11th book in the series, and it’s another great one. Author Hurwitz has made this one a little more personal for Evan. He is having feelings and thoughts he is not used to. Dare I say Evan is changing and maturing ,and it makes the character more interesting and more human.
