Book Review: ‘All That Is Mine I Carry With Me: A Novel’ By William Landay

Author Phillip Solomon has been having writer’s block until he meets up with his old friend Jeff Larkin, and they talk about the past, and Jeff’s mother Jane going missing in 1975. Phillip decides to write a novel about it. She just up and vanished one day, leaving her three kids, Jay, Miranda and Alex, and her husband Dan. The case heavily investigated with Dan being the prime suspect. No body was ever found, with any concrete evidence against Dan, and the case went cold. When Jane’s body is found two-decades later, it reopens the case, and old family wounds, and now each adult must choose sides, is their father guilty or not. Told from different points of views of the various characters, this is a masterclass in how to write a compelling novel. Author Landay is known for Defending Jacob, which became an emmy-nominated series, brings the same kind of thought provoking, character driven story, to this one. Readers will not be able to put it down.
