The year is 1994 and Francie Baum is turning 17 and it’s her senior year in high school. She kisses her best friend Jason, who then tells her it was a mistake. She has a younger sister Lola, and an older brother Jason, who went to rehab and left four years ago causing a family fight. She hasn’t talked to him in all these years. She meets a hot new guy, Eitan, and they start dating and fall in love and she loses her virginity to him. Then she gets accepted to Duke and he has to go away for the summer and they have to figure out their future. Just a typical year in the life of a senior student who hangs with her friends, falls in love, lies to her parents and has teen angst. This is a well-written character-driven novel which engages you in the life of Francie, her family and friends. Throw in pop-culture mix tapes and flashbacks to the life of Francie growing up and this book is a winner.
